The Ultimate Stir Fry Sauce

  • Author: Ashley

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce (low sodium recommended)
  • 1/4 cup chicken or vegetable broth
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon honey or brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
  • 1 teaspoon rice vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili flakes (optional, adjust for heat preference)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, chicken or vegetable broth, oyster sauce, and cornstarch until the cornstarch is fully dissolved.
  2. Add the honey (or brown sugar), sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, rice vinegar, and chili flakes (if using). Whisk all the ingredients together until well combined and the honey or sugar is dissolved.
  3. Taste the sauce and adjust the seasoning or sweetness according to your preference.
  4. This stir-fry sauce is now ready to be added to your favorite stir-fry. Pour it over your cooked meat and vegetables towards the end of the cooking process. Stir well to ensure everything is evenly coated and cook for an additional minute or two until the sauce has thickened and is glossy.
  5. Serve your delicious stir-fried dishes immediately, garnished with sesame seeds or sliced green onions for an extra touch.

Notes

  • Customization is Key: Feel free to adjust the sweetness, saltiness, and spice levels to match your taste preferences.
  • Fresh Ingredients: Using fresh garlic and ginger instead of powdered forms will significantly enhance the flavor of your sauce.
  • Versatility: This sauce isn’t just for stir-fries; use it as a marinade for meats or a dipping sauce for dumplings.
  • Balance the Flavors: If the sauce is too salty, add a bit more sugar or honey. If it’s too sweet, balance it with a little extra soy sauce or a dash of vinegar.
