Description

These delightful Homemade Sugar Donuts are perfect for breakfast or as a sweet treat any time of the day!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • For Coating:
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, ground cinnamon, and ground nutmeg.
  2. In a separate bowl, beat the egg, then add the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Mix until well combined.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix; the batter should be slightly lumpy.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or heavy-bottomed pot to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Using a spoon or a small ice cream scoop, carefully drop spoonfuls of dough into the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding.
  6. Fry the donuts for 2-3 minutes per side, or until they are golden brown and cooked through.
  7. Remove the donuts from the oil using a slotted spoon and drain them on a paper towel-lined plate.
  8. In a shallow dish, mix together the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon for coating.
  9. While the donuts are still warm, roll them in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until evenly coated.
  10. Serve the Homemade Sugar Donuts warm and enjoy their delicious, freshly fried flavor!
