- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Vegetable oil for frying
- For Coating:
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, ground cinnamon, and ground nutmeg.
- In a separate bowl, beat the egg, then add the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Mix until well combined.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix; the batter should be slightly lumpy.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or heavy-bottomed pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Using a spoon or a small ice cream scoop, carefully drop spoonfuls of dough into the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding.
- Fry the donuts for 2-3 minutes per side, or until they are golden brown and cooked through.
- Remove the donuts from the oil using a slotted spoon and drain them on a paper towel-lined plate.
- In a shallow dish, mix together the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon for coating.
- While the donuts are still warm, roll them in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until evenly coated.
- Serve the Homemade Sugar Donuts warm and enjoy their delicious, freshly fried flavor!
